What does shilajit do for women?
Shilajit is a mineral-rich resin that seeps from Himalayan rock in the summer heat, used in Ayurveda as a rasayana: a daily rejuvenator rather than a stimulant. Women take it mainly for steadier energy, better mineral absorption and stress resilience. The usual dose is 300β500 mg of resin once daily, dissolved in warm water or milk.
That's the honest short version. The longer one carries more caveats than most shilajit pages will admit, and we would rather you read them here than find them somewhere else after you've paid. So this page covers what the research actually supports, what it doesn't, the heavy-metal question almost nobody answers, and how much to take. If you want the deeper read, we wrote a separate piece on shilajit benefits for women, and another on shilajit during a stressful stretch.
What women tell us they feel
You slept seven hours. You ate breakfast. It's 3pm and your brain has quietly logged off, and the coffee at 1pm did nothing except make your heart go faster. Some version of that message arrives most weeks.

Low energy all day
Afternoons that need a second coffee.

Cycles that feel off
Unpredictable, heavy, draining.

Dull, tired skin
Tone and texture that lost their bounce.

Foggy, stretched thin
Focus that fades before the day does.
None of that is a diagnosis. Some of it is sleep. Some of it is stress. Some of it is minerals you lose every month and never fully replace. Shilajit only helps with the last one, and pretending otherwise is how a supplement brand earns a one-star review that opens with "I wanted this to work."
Shilajit benefits for women: what the research supports, and what it doesn't
This is the part where we probably lose a few sales. Better here than in a refund email.
The most-quoted shilajit study, the one every brand screenshots, ran on men aged 45 to 55 and tracked testosterone over 90 days. It's a real study. It says nothing about you. When a women's shilajit page cites it without mentioning that detail, that's the tell. We took the research apart properly in what the testosterone studies actually say.
Cleveland Clinic's writeup on shilajit puts it plainly: the human studies are few, small and methodologically shaky, and a lot of the exciting findings come from test tubes rather than people. We agree with them. That's an odd thing for a shilajit brand to say out loud, but the alternative is promising you a hormone reset in 14 days and hoping you don't check.
Reasonable to expect
A steadier baseline of energy after three to four weeks, better tolerance of a heavy week, fewer hard afternoon crashes. This is what women actually come back and reorder for.
Plausible, but under-studied
Skin appearance, hair quality, sleep depth. Plenty of anecdotal reports, including in our own reviews. Thin human evidence. We'll keep saying so until that changes.
Not what shilajit is for
Treating anaemia, correcting a thyroid problem, fixing PCOS, or replacing iron your doctor prescribed. If a brand implies any of that, they're writing cheques the science can't cash.
Shilajit is a floor-raiser, not a switch, and why the resin is valued at all has more to do with mineral density than with any single dramatic effect. Nobody's day is transformed on Tuesday because a jar arrived on Monday.
1 in 3 women
run low on iron.
Swallowing a mineral isn't the same as absorbing one. Fulvic acid carries minerals in ionic form, small and already dissolved, which is the shape your cells can actually take in. That's why the fulvic acid number on a jar matters more than the marketing on the front of it. To be exact: shilajit is not an iron supplement. If your ferritin is low, get it tested and treated properly.
*WHO estimates roughly 30% of women aged 15β49 are affected by anaemia worldwide.
Support, not a switch.
Shilajit is a rasayana, a daily rejuvenator. It works on the timescale your cells work on, not the timescale of a stimulant. Nothing here is a jolt.
The resin form preserves intact humic and fulvic acid complexes that drying and spray-drying degrade. Fulvic acid supports mitochondrial function and ATP production, the body's energy currency, while carrying trace minerals into the cell.
Paired with Ashwagandha, Safed Musli and Swarna Bhasma, this is a composition built for women's wellness across life stages.

Resin vs capsules vs powder: picking the best shilajit for women
Capsules win on convenience, and on nothing else.
| Resin | Capsules | Powder | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fulvic acid intact | β Undegraded | β Cut by processing heat | β Often reduced |
| Fillers | β None | β Rice flour, stearates | β Sometimes |
| Dose control | β Adjustable | β Fixed | β Messy |
| Taste | Strong and earthy | None | Strong |
| Purity you can verify | β Visible and testable | β Hidden in a shell | β Hard to assess |
If the taste is genuinely a dealbreaker for you, buy capsules from someone. We'd rather you take something daily than own a jar you avoid. The full breakdown sits in resin vs capsules vs powder.
The heavy-metal question, answered
This is the section we'd want to read if we were the ones buying, and almost nobody writes it.
A 2024 research review found that raw, unprocessed shilajit frequently carries aluminium, arsenic, cadmium, chromium, mercury, thallium, lead and fungal contamination. It comes out of rock. Of course it does.
Worse: a 2025 study found that some purified shilajit supplements contained higher thallium levels than the raw material. Purification done badly concentrates the wrong thing. "Purified" on a label is a word, not a result.
The only real answer is a number, on a certificate, tied to a batch you can name. Ask any shilajit brand for a batch-specific COA and watch what happens; most send a PDF from a different year. Ask us and we'll email the one matching the jar in your hand. Everything we hold sits on our lab reports page, and if you want the field-level version, here is how our shilajit is sourced.

How to take shilajit for women: pea-sized, once a day
Under a minute in the morning.
Scoop a pea-sized amount
Roughly 300β500mg, using the spoon in the jar. Resin is dense, so a lump the size of a pea is more than it looks.
Dissolve in something warm
Stir fully into warm water, milk or herbal tea. Never boiling: heat degrades the fulvic acid you paid for.
Once daily, in the morning
Best on an empty stomach, though with breakfast is fine if your stomach is sensitive. Same time every day beats perfect timing.
What goes wrong. Two failure modes, both common. People take a fingernail-sized scoop because they want faster results, and people take it for eleven days, feel nothing dramatic, and stop. Start at 100β200mg for week one, build to a full pea, and give it 90 days before you judge it. On cycling: some practitioners suggest six to eight weeks on and two off. The evidence either way is thin, and a break does no harm if you prefer one. Worth reading first: what actually happens over 30 days.
Who shouldn't take shilajit
Skip it, or talk to your doctor first, if any of these apply to you.
- Pregnant, breastfeeding, or actively trying to conceive
- Managing haemochromatosis or any iron-overload condition
- Living with kidney stones or kidney disease
- Taking blood pressure, blood-thinning or diabetes medication
- Under 18
- Being treated for a gynaecological condition: ask the person treating it
Mild digestive upset or a headache in the first week usually means the dose is too high. Halve it, drink more water, and stop if anything persists.
What to expect
Shilajit isn't designed to flip a switch overnight. Here's the honest arc of consistent daily use.
Settling in
Your body meets a mineral load it hasn't had in a while. Most women notice nothing yet.
Steadier days
Not a surge, more the absence of the crash. This is where the reorders come from.
The glow phase
Skin and hair are slow-turnover tissues, so if anything shifts there, this is roughly when it shows.
Your new baseline
The point where you stop thinking about it, then run out, then notice the difference.
Timelines vary, honestly.
Someone sleeping five hours a night under a heavy stress load will move slower than someone who is broadly well and simply running short on minerals.
Women who stopped calling it "just being tired"

Frequently asked questions
Still unsure? Message us and support replies within 24 hours.
Is shilajit good for women?+
Yes, for the specific things it does: mineral delivery, energy that holds through the afternoon, and stress tolerance. It isn't a hormone treatment and it won't fix a deficiency your doctor should be managing. Most women see the clearest change between weeks four and eight.
What makes this a women's formula?+
Most shilajit is formulated around men's performance herbs. This one keeps the same resin base, 78% fulvic acid and 85+ minerals, and pairs it with Ashwagandha, Safed Musli and Swarna Bhasma, herbs with a long tradition of use in women's Ayurvedic practice. It is not a testosterone booster and was never designed as one.
How long until I notice anything?+
Energy and sleep usually shift in weeks two to four. Skin and hair, if they shift, take six to eight. Give it 90 days before you decide, which is roughly two jars.
How much shilajit should a woman take?+
300β500mg of resin once a day, about the size of a pea, dissolved in warm water or milk. New to it? Start at 100β200mg for the first week, then build up. More is not faster; it's just a headache.
Can I take it during my period?+
Generally yes. Fulvic acid supports mineral transport at exactly the point in the month when you're losing minerals. If you have a diagnosed gynaecological condition, check with your doctor first.
Can I take shilajit while pregnant or breastfeeding?+
No. There isn't enough safety data, and this is not the moment to be someone's data point.
Does shilajit raise testosterone in women?+
The testosterone research was done in men in their forties and fifties. There's no good evidence it meaningfully shifts testosterone in women, and this formula wasn't built to. We went through the studies in what the testosterone research actually says.
Is resin better than capsules or powder?+
Resin preserves the intact humic and fulvic acid complexes. Capsules and powders go through heat and processing that degrade fulvic acid, the very thing you're taking shilajit for. Full comparison in resin vs capsules vs powder.
Is every batch lab-tested?+
Yes. Every batch is independently tested for fulvic acid content, heavy metals (lead, arsenic, mercury, cadmium) and microbial safety. The current batch is ULSG2601033, tested by Eurofins, and the Certificate of Analysis is available on request at info@porthonutrients.com.
Why is the resin hard in winter and soft in summer?+
Because it's real resin. Genuine shilajit stiffens in cold and softens in warmth. If yours behaves identically in every season, ask what else is in it. Store it tightly closed in a cool, dark, dry place, with no refrigeration needed.
How much does it cost per day?+
$75 for a 30g jar, roughly 60 servings, so about $1.25 a day. Free worldwide shipping.
